Customers are often alarmed when they hear that we have our cotton produced and processed abroad. But we’re open about it and have very good reasons for this deliberate decision.

Balanced water cycle
A balanced water cycle is essential—especially in cotton production—to ensure sustainable production. Negative examples, such as the near-complete drying up of the Aral Sea, clearly demonstrate how much damage can be inflicted on nature when cotton is not grown in harmony with it. Our approach: We have our cotton grown in Denizli, Turkey. There, cotton has been cultivated in harmony with nature for centuries. The people there know how carefully they must treat nature—and especially the water balance—to enable continuous production of the highest quality while preserving the region’s water balance in the long term.

CO₂ Savings
We are constantly working to reduce our own carbon footprint. This begins with our choice of transportation methods and shipping partners and extends to the use of renewable energy in our production and manufacturing facilities. We’ve already implemented this in Denizli: Our production facilities there are powered by solar energy. For emissions that we currently cannot avoid, we make compensation payments. For shipping, we partner with Austrian Post. They aim to make last-mile delivery CO₂-free throughout Austria by 2030. In general, we keep our transportation distances in the production countries as short as possible, since our cotton fields and all relevant infrastructure are located within a maximum radius of 100 km from one another.

Reducing Pesticide Use
Pesticides not only affect and impair our own quality of life and soil quality; their production also requires an enormous amount of energy, which places an additional burden on the environment. Our approach: As our organic product line continues to grow—and now accounts for over 80% of our total product range—we are actively contributing to the protection of the soil and the environment. Since no pesticides may be used on organic cotton fields, the energy required for their production is completely eliminated, and there is no soil contamination from these toxins.

Socially Responsible Production
“Regional” or “Made in Europe” does not automatically guarantee fair working conditions or quality—quite the opposite: Unfortunately, even in Europe—for example, in England or Italy—there are still numerous instances of exploitation, starvation wages, and oppression in the workplace. Furthermore, as a Fair Wear member, we advocate for socially responsible working conditions on the ground and can thus make a real difference. If all companies that support socially responsible production were to suddenly move away from the textile hubs and switch to regional production, the pressure on local workers would only increase, and their working conditions would deteriorate even further. That is why we have made a conscious decision to produce the majority of our products with our partner Turgut in Turkey. We are now connected by a 20-year partnership, which—combined with our Fair Wear membership—gives us genuine insight into local conditions and a real opportunity to bring about change.

The circular economy is rightly on everyone’s lips—but we see a major problem in the fact that products are often not thought through holistically from start to finish. Here’s an example: Recycling plastic products makes it possible to keep them in the cycle longer. Eventually, however, we end up with a product that can no longer be recycled, is harmful to the environment, and still needs to be disposed of somehow. This merely delays the inevitable pollution.

We focus on products that are consistently designed for the circular economy and can, at the end of their life cycle, be transformed into nutrients for new plants under suitable conditions. With our Cradle to Cradle Certified® GOLD bedding and our terry cloth, we’ve already developed products that make exactly that possible—and we’re already working on additional C2C collections.

The Schlossgugger Haus - a time capsule that has seen so much. It is the oldest house in Dornbirn and has been a listed building since 1967. Research has shown that the house dates back to 1290 (+/-5). A striking feature of the building is the gradual "petrification" of the original rising timberwork - the historical change from timber to mixed timber and stone construction. We fell in love with this house, bought it and are taking care to preserve and renovate it. New ideas should live on in it - a project that gives us a lot of pleasure!
