A Look Back at Heritage Day at the Schlossguggerhaus

On September 27, the Schlossguggerhaus in Dornbirn opened its doors for Heritage Day. And what we experienced far exceeded our expectations. Around 1,000 visitors made their way to us.
A Day When History Came Alive
We would like to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts for your interest in the history of this house and, above all, for your patience. The lines were very long at times, yet everyone waited in good spirits. Sometimes we even had to close off the top floor because the beams were literally bending under the heavy foot traffic!
One visit in particular will remain etched in our memories. Ingrid Stoss was born in this house in 1930 and visited us on Heritage Day at the age of 96. Getting to know a woman who was born within these walls and watching her walk through these rooms touched us deeply.

Monument: A Treasure for Everyone
The day was made possible by the experts who guided visitors through the building and shared their knowledge with them. Each of them gave between 15 and 22 presentations that day—some even at the age of over 80. With their enthusiasm and perseverance, they literally brought the building to life, and for that we owe them our very special thanks. We would also like to thank our partners—the vai Vorarlberg Architecture Institute in Dornbirn, the Dornbirn City Museum, and the Federal Monuments Office in Bregenz—who helped make this day possible.
This year’s theme for Heritage Day was “Heritage: Value for Everyone.” At the Schlossguggerhaus, this motto was truly brought to life. Children, families, experts, and curious visitors gathered together in a house dating back to 1294, asking questions, marveling, and experiencing history up close.

Homeowner and event organizer Stefan Grabher offers an extremely positive assessment: “It means a lot to me to be able to share my enthusiasm for this house with so many people.” The large turnout and the many conversations showed him that the enthusiasm is contagious. And that’s exactly what it’s all about. After all, a historic landmark doesn’t reveal its value in silence, but rather where people come together, exchange ideas, and make discoveries together.
We thank everyone who made this day so special, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Schlossguggerhaus soon!
