Since 2016, we have been a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization that works globally to improve working conditions in the textile and apparel industry. Membership is not a product or factory certification, but rather an ongoing support process. We gain access to a network of other member companies, receive support in implementing specific improvements, and our progress is evaluated annually as part of the Brand Performance Check.
This approach aims for continuous improvement, not a one-time pass or fail, because human rights due diligence is always a process. It requires active engagement, monitoring, and ongoing refinement; it is not a state that is achieved once and then maintained. That is why no membership or certification can guarantee a risk-free or harm-free supply chain, no matter how strict its criteria may be.
Here are a few examples from our practice that illustrate what our efforts look like in practice:
- Through anonymous surveys and interviews, we receive feedback on wages, working hours, training opportunities, discrimination, and complaint procedures. This helps bring to light issues that would not be apparent from documents or during a routine factory visit.
- Information about the Fair-Wear complaint hotline is available at production facilities. Employees can contact an independent representative in their own language. If problems are reported, they must be investigated and addressed in collaboration with the production facility.
- Short lead times, last-minute changes, or poorly calculated prices can lead to overtime and wage pressure. That is why we coordinate production volumes and delivery times with our partner companies and ask suppliers how our orders affect their capacity and workforce.
