When choosing a comforter, the filling material, warmth rating, size, and personal sleeping habits are the most important factors to consider. People who tend to get cold easily at night often prefer a warmer, more heavily filled comforter. Those who sweat easily or sleep in a warm room usually find a lighter comforter more comfortable.

The filling material affects, among other things, the weight, thermal performance, sleeping comfort, and care of the comforter.

Down comforters

Our down comforters are made in Austria. Down can retain a lot of heat despite its relatively light weight, while also absorbing and releasing moisture. Depending on the model, Mary Rose offers summer, all-season, and winter down comforters: Summer Down Comforters They have a lower fill volume and are suitable for warmer nights or for people who don't need as much warmth. All-Season Down Comforters In terms of warmth, they fall between summer and winter blankets and are suitable for many bedrooms with a relatively consistent room temperature. Winter Down Comforters have a higher fill weight and provide greater warmth for cold nights or people who feel the cold easily. For models labeled as such, the origin of the down is verified according to the independent DOWNPASS standard. The certification applicable to each comforter is listed directly on the product page. Silk Blankets

Our silk blankets are made in Austria and filled with wild silk. Silk can absorb moisture and, due to its light weight, is often used for lighter comforters. Silk blankets are particularly suitable for warm nights or for people who prefer a light blanket. However, how cool or warm a comforter feels also depends on its fill weight, the room temperature, and your personal sensitivity to heat. If a silk comforter or individual components are GOTS-certified, this is indicated directly on the respective product. The certification applies only to the specifically listed materials and manufacturing steps.

The right size

In addition to your height, you should also consider how much freedom of movement you want under the blanket and whether you'll be sleeping under it alone or with a partner. Common sizes include:

A longer comforter may be particularly suitable for taller people or for those who like to pull their comforter up over their shoulders. For those with a dust mite allergy, factors such as the comforter’s washability, regular professional cleaning, and special mite-proof protective covers can play a role. Down or silk comforters are not automatically hypoallergenic or suitable for everyone with allergies. Please follow the care and material instructions for the specific product. If you have severe allergies or health issues, you should consult a doctor or a specialized advisory service when making your selection.

Caring for Down Comforters

A suitable clothes dryer and dryer balls can help fluff up the down during the drying process. Caring for Silk Blankets

Silk comforters should be aired out regularly and cleaned only according to the instructions on the care label. Many models are not suitable for machine washing or tumble drying. Whether professional cleaning is permissible depends on the specific construction of the duvet. It is therefore essential to follow the care instructions for the specific product. Not every duvet requires annual cleaning. How often it should be cleaned depends on usage, material, soiling, and care instructions.
