Our Schlossgugger wines

Sustainabilityis more than just a principle for us at Mary Rose - it now also shapes our approach to winemaking. With great care, regional grapes and traditional craftsmanship, we produce our own Schlossgugger wine around the Schlossguggerhaus in Dornbirn - now also available online
Schlossgugger: Winning wine from Vorarlberg
Our wines win gold and silver at the PIWI Wine Award Austria.
What began as a project of the heart has now been officially recognized: Together with cellar master Harry König, our managing director Stefan Grabher has caused a sensation with the Schlossgugger wines at this year's PIWI Wine Award Austria. Out of 204 entries from all over Austria, the Dornbirn wines impressed the international jury of experts and were awarded gold and silver.
The PIWI Wine Award is the largest competition for innovative, future-oriented wines in the German-speaking world. A high-caliber jury evaluated the best wines from all regions of Austria - from Styria to Lake Constance. The most convincing wines were awarded prizes in twelve categories - including our Schlossgugger cuvée and the red wine "Leon Millot".
"Schlossgugger" cuvée takes gold and victory, silver for "Leon Millot"
A real highlight: our Schlossgugger wine Muscaris/Blütenmuskateller was awarded gold at the PIWI Wine Award Austria and even took first place in the "White Wine Cuvée" category - the first wine ever from Vorarlberg.
Our red wine Leon Millot also impressed the jury and was awarded silver.
What makes our wines special?
They are unfiltered, matured with great patience and craftsmanship in the historic cellar of the Schlossguggerhaus. The white wines are produced through spontaneous fermentation on their own yeast - this gives them depth, individuality and character, with sustainability playing a central role.
As in textile production at Mary Rose, Managing Director Stefan Grabher also pursues a holistic, responsible approach to viticulture. For him, one thing is clear: "Whatever new approach we take must always be ecological and innovative at the same time." That is why our wine comes from organic cultivation - with great conviction, even if we do not yet have official certification.
Wine with roots - and vision
For us, the path to our own wine did not begin in the wine cellar, but with the Schlossguggerhaus - a 700-year-old jewel in the heart of Dornbirn.
What began as a project of the heart became the source of a new passion: wine was first matured within the historic walls as part of a small wine brotherhood, and later - together with cellar master Harry König - a completely new idea of viticulture grew out of it.
In Harry König, we found the ideal partner: experienced, down-to-earth and innovative at the same time. Back in 2001, Harry planted his first vineyard in the Eschenau parcel in Dornbirn - which is exactly where the grapes for our award-winning Leon Millot grow today. And with his many years of experience in Piedmontese viticulture, he not only brings knowledge, but also a real feel for the craft. Together, the two of them create a wine experience that is deeply rooted in the region and at the same time looks beyond the horizon.

From amphora to cuvée: our approach to wine
Tradition meets experimentation - this is perhaps the best way to describe our wine concept.
In addition to classic ageing in tanks and wooden barrels, we also rely on alternative forms of ageing: for example, orange wine, which rests in handmade clay amphorae and thus develops a particularly complex aroma.last spring, we planted our own vines around the Schlossguggerhaus for the first time - exactly where vineyards stood centuries ago.
Today, the grape varieties of our award-winning cuvée grow in this historic location: 60% Muscaris, 40% blossom muscatel. A successful composition, developed by cellar master König, who is already looking forward to his first harvest. The grapes still come from selected Styrian vineyards - but from next year, our white wine will be rooted directly in Dornbirn.

With care and passion - from the vineyard to the glass
By growing wine in the Schlossguggerhaus, we are bringing a piece of Dornbirn's history into the present. Together with Harry, we produce a wine here that is made with precision craftsmanship and a keen sense for the essentials. While Harry works with great dedication in the vineyard and in the cellar, Stefan sees himself as a driving force - someone who sets things in motion, tries out new things and rethinks what already exists. With their openness to new approaches and their uncompromising quality philosophy, the two have long since made a name for themselves as creative lateral thinkers who like to work against the grain, but always with substance. The awards at the PIWI Wine Award Austria are not only a nice confirmation, but above all an incentive: for wines with character and a clear attitude
Less intervention, more nature: the vines of the future
The vines from which our Schlossgugger wines are made are particularly robust - they require significantly less plant protection and are better able to cope with the challenges of climate change. This is not only good for the soil, but also for the biodiversity around our vineyards - these so-called PIWI vines represent a new, sustainable generation in viticulture: less chemicals, more naturalness - and therefore exactly what counts for us at Mary Rose.
